Finding Their Voice
Poet Jackie Warren-Moore teaches workshops with young people who have been suspended from their local schools and are receiving a range of supportive services through CCA. She grew up in the inner city and like others was caught up in a web of violence. "Poetry, writing and expressing myself saved my life. I recognized that I could change the world more by using my voice than by using my fists. It is my mission to pass that on. By listening and making the workshop a safe place, I help them discover that within the confines of writing they can be and do everything," explains Warren-Moore. As her students find their voices, their confidence and school work improves.
