Death Penalty Mitigation

CCA provides sentencing mitigation services to defense counsel and their clients in capital cases. In 1995, when New York State passed it’s death penalty law, CCA established itself as a leading death penalty mitigation specialist. We continue to do this work in the federal courts and other jurisdictions that impose the death penalty. Mitigation services include: counseling and extensive background investigation of defendants charged in potential death penalty cases; collateral interviews, writing social history reports, development of mitigation theories for penalty phase and overall organization of inter-disciplinary teams consisting of attorneys, investigators, mental health experts and paralegals.

CCA has provided capital mitigation services in more than 65 state and federal death penalty cases. Remarkably, CCA has been able to mitigate against a death sentence in almost every one of the cases in which we’ve been involved.
