Jennifer Ashton, PhD
Dr. Jennifer Randhare Ashton, PhD is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Education and Human Development at SUNY Brockport. She received a PhD in teaching, curriculum, and change from the University of Rochester in 2010 and her master’s degree in special education from SUNY Geneseo in 1995. Prior to starting her career in higher education, she was a public school teacher in secondary special education and middle school.
Her service at SUNY Brockport has consisted of chairing the university-wide President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion and Committee on Accessibility, as well as various department-level leadership roles. She teaches future inclusive educators at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research interests include examining contemporary P-12 special education and higher education practices from a Disability Studies in Education perspective such as trauma-informed instruction, supporting students with emotional and behavioral disabilities in inclusive settings, and diverse identity representation in children’s literature. She has written several scholarly articles that have been published in the International Journal of Inclusive Education, International Journal of Whole Schooling, Classroom Discourse, Teacher Education Quarterly, and the Peace Review Journal.
