Barbara Berger Opotowsky

Barbara Berger Opotowsky served as a nonprofit executive for over thirty years. She was  Executive Director of the 24,000 member New York City Bar Association, one of the leading professional membership organizations in the country. The City Bar has a long tradition of speaking out forcefully on critical public issues and provides access to justice programs locally and internationally through its sister organizations, the City Bar Justice Center and the Vance Center for International Justice.

Prior to the City Bar, Ms. Opotowsky was the President of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York, Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs and in private practice.

Her varied areas of expertise led to her inclusion on various international missions including to Budapest and Moscow on governance and not for profit law issues, to Santiago to foster pro bono internationally and to Sri Lanka to consult on strengthening the voice of the Bar.

Since retiring from the City Bar, Ms. Opotowsky has enjoyed a wide range of engagements including serving as President of the Mount Sinai Medical Legal Partnership, an organization that provides legal services to low-income hospital patients. She has also been engaged in a number of activities related to criminal justice including assisting incarcerated individuals seeking clemency and preparing for their parole hearings and mentoring formerly incarcerated individuals during their reentry.

Ms. Opotowsky holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Fordham University School of Law where she served on the Law Review.
